The Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) is an interdisciplinary field that integrates domain knowledge, statistics, and computer science to extract information to provide data-driven decisions. The program follows the Data Science Body of Knowledge of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). This degree prepares graduates for opportunities to work in and advance their Data Science careers. Graduates understand the data and know how it can be leveraged. They know the right tools and techniques to get the job done.
Courses focus on mastering the technical and leadership skills required to influence the way that data science is implemented and consumed in any organization. Online courses allow you to pursue the MSDS while you work.
The MSDS consists of the core requirements, the depth of study, a choice of courses, and the capstone. Core requirements include fundamental concepts, techniques, tools, and practices related to data science. In addition to the core courses, the Depth of Study sequence prepares students to demonstrate expertise in data science with courses such as Math and Statistics for Data Science, and Big Data Architectures and Systems.
A choice of courses allows students to expand their interests in other disciplines, such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or IT Management. Students can select an internship as an option. Students complete the capstone course which can be a project, research paper, thesis, poster, or a public presentation designed to demonstrate mastery.
The Master of Science in Data Science will prepare students to:
Integrate a foundational knowledge of all areas of advanced data science
Apply fundamental principles and practices of advanced data science
Apply critical and ethical thinking to solve problems in advanced data science
Evaluate data to inform decisions and solve problems in advanced data science
Create the ability to develop and express ideas while applying a variety of delivery models, genres, and styles
Collaborate effectively on diverse teams to accomplish a common goal
